Guest speaker

Introducing our guest speaker, the British writer and teacher Lucy Kellaway, OBE

Lucy is a former Associate Editor and management columnist for the FT. For 15 years, her humorous take on the idiocy of corporate life was a must-read in offices globally. Her shock decision seven years ago to leave it all behind and retrain as a teacher bravely defied current societal norms. And she did not just focus on teaching - during this time Lucy also co-founded NowTeach, a successful charity that has provided support to over 500 career changers.

Lucy’s bold career-changing journey is a testament to the idea that it’s never too late to start anew and embrace change.

She will share with us her inspiration for the change, the obstacles she encountered in this transformative process and the joy of a renewed purpose. Will it ignite your passion and encourage you to unlock doors to new opportunities? We think so!

Join us for a splendid morning with the witty Lucy Kellaway as we celebrate Women’s Month this August.

Biography

Lucy Kellaway joined the Financial Times in 1985 and was Associate Editor and management columnist when she left the FT in 2017. For 15 years her weekly Monday column “Lucy Kellaway on Management” poked fun at management fads and jargon and celebrated the ups and downs of office life.

She is also the author of a number of books. Her latest book, How I changed my job, my home, my husband & my hair, hit the shelves in 2021 and tells the story of how she came to realise that the life she had built for herself no longer suited her and how she changed that.

Other books are Sense and Nonsense in the Office (2000), Martin Lukes: Who Moved My BlackBerry (2006), In Office Hours (2010) and The Answers: All the office questions you never dared to ask (2011).

Kellaway is also the co-founder of Now Teach, a charity that attracts and recruits experienced and successful people to change their career into teaching. They believe children should benefit from talented teachers who’ve already had successful careers and that these teachers should bring their skills and experiences to the schools that need them most.
